Bad Work Habits for Your Smile

Posted .

If you want a top-notch smile and oral health, then you need to do all you can to keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape. This means you need to keep your smile in mind at work. Unfortunately, there are bad work habits that can harm your smile. Our dentist, Dr. Harrison Keith III, recommends avoiding those habits as much as possible. Those habits are:

-Chewing on your nails and other hard objects: Chewing on your nails, pencils, pens and ice can apply unnatural pressure to the teeth and fracture the tooth enamel. The fracture might be small at first, but it can get bigger with time, cracking the entire tooth.

-Not drinking enough water: Water can wash your mouth throughout the day. If you don’t sip on water as you complete important tasks at work, then the food particles from breakfast and lunch as well as bacteria can live in your smile and promote dental issues.

-Not chewing gum: Chewing gum can help you produce saliva. When you produce saliva, you wash your mouth often. This is why it’s best to chew gum after every meal and snack. Doing so can wash the bacteria from your teeth and gums.
